☆ China vows to treat foreign firms equally as it seeks more international investment

China pledged on Monday to treat foreign companies the same way as domestic peers in a bid to attract more foreign investment, cooperation and expertise, as Asia's largest economy moves to upgrade and strengthen its industrial chains. In response, China has stepped up efforts to address concerns of foreign investors, pledging to protect the rights of foreign companies and promising to further enlarge entry into its markets. Over 100 overseas executives and investors have attended the annual China Development Forum since the weekend, including companies with deep supply chains in China such as Apple and Siemens .

SHANGHAI, Nov 4 (Reuters) - China's industry minister said the country's industrial economy stablised and recovered in the first three quarters of 2023 and the new energy sector, such as electric cars, shined. "In the fourth quarter, we are confident the industrial economy will keep the recovery momentum," said Jin Zhuanglong, China's Minister of Industry and Information Technology, in an interview with China state television CCTV. China's industrial output in September grew 4.5% from a year earlier, matching the pace in August, as policy support measures stabilised some parts of the world's second-largest economy. Overseas markets remain an important growth area, although an EU probe into China-made EVs may put a damper on exports. Foxconn, whose full name is Hon Hai Technology Group, issued a statement hours later that said the company would comply with its legal obligations: “Legal compliance everywhere we operate around the world is a fundamental principle of Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn). “The two sides exchanged views on Apple’s development in China, industrial chain supply chain cooperation and other issues,” the ministry said in a statement afterward. In recent months, central government authorities have warned local and provincial governments facing budget shortfalls not to use arbitrary fines to raise money. Beijing is trying hard to woo foreign investment to strengthen economic growth and maintain China’s leading role in global supply chains. The two developers that vied for national leadership over the past several years, China Evergrande and Country Garden, are in peril, unable to make punctual debt payments.
